Waco: Illegal drug use among teens is on the rise

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Local drug enforcement officers and substance abuse counselors say illegal drug use among Waco area teenagers is on the rise and that many are getting the drugs at school.

(Houston, TX – September 7, 2016) The Cenikor Foundation (Cenikor) is hosting its annual Voices for Recovery Luncheon in Houston, Texas on Monday, September 26, 2016. We are fortunate each year to host strong members in the local community including local and state representatives, prominent business leaders, illustrious members of the recovery and behavioral health industry, and proud alumni of the Cenikor family. Each year we honor key members of the Houston, Deer Park Facility and surrounding areas that have made a tremendous impact on our great community. This year we are privileged to honor Representative Senfronia Thompson as Elected Official of the Year; the Albert & Ethel Herzstein Foundation as Philanthropist of the Year; Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ as Business Partner of the Year; and Ms. Tracy Dudley as Community Leader of the Year.

The Cenikor family has been proud to call Deer Park, Texas home for many years. “With the generous support of so many in the Houston, Deer Park and surrounding areas, we have been able to offer treatment to over 1,400 clients through our long-term, detox and short-term programs. IN THE NEWS: Fort Worth distributes grant to housing programs

With $10.1 million received from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the city council voted unanimously on Aug. 9 to approve an action plan that outlines how the money will be distributed in 2016-2017.

 

HUD’s $10.1 million grant is an increase from the $9.8 million grant HUD provided for 2015-2016. The grant helps support the City of Fort Worth’s housing programs and activities. The funds come from the federal government’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).

IN THE NEWS: Cenikor Tyler looks to grow

On Tuesday, city of Tyler Planning and Zoning approved a five-year permit for Cenikor, a substance abuse treatment facility.

In the year and a half since its initial one-year permit approval, company officials said the center has impacted many lives.

They’ve had 485 people come through the doors of the small facility, which holds 30 beds, located on West Gentry Parkway. More than 230 patients are native to Smith County. Most have addictions to heroin or methamphetamine, and most are between ages 26 and 30, facility officials said.
