Tio Kleberg
King Ranch
Tio Kleberg was born to Richard M. Kleberg Jr. and Mary Lewis Scott Kleberg. Tio grew up on the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas, working summers with ranch operations. Tio graduated from Texas Military Institute in 1964. In 1969, he received a B. S. in Animal Scient at Texas Tech University and was honored to serve as President of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
From 1969 to 1971, Tio served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army receiving a Distinguished Service Medal. Upon leaving the military, he returned to King Ranch to begin a career in ranch and wildlife management. Under the direction of his father, R.M. Kleberg, Jr. and uncle, Bob Kleberg, Jr. he managed the four divisions of King Ranch in south Texas. Upon his father’s death and that of his uncle, he became vice-president of all agriculture operations for King Ranch. The operations included farming in Texas, Arizona, and Florida, and running cattle and Quarter horse operations in South Texas, Argentina, and Brazil.
Tio retired from management in 1998 and was elected to the King Ranch Board of Directors where he served until 2022, with a total of fifty-one years of service to King Ranch.
Today, Tio serves as an Advisory Director for the Caesar Kleberg Foundation for Wildlife Conservation, Vice-Chairman for Texas A&M University-Kingsville Foundation, and is on the Board of the East Foundation.
Tio and his wife, Janell, have three grown children and eight grandchildren. They reside at the King Ranch in Kingsville, Texas.
