Cenikor Receiving More Assistance from State of Texas to Tackle Opioid Problem

Houston, April 28– Today, Cenikor announces that it will be receiving more assistance from the State of Texas at its facility in Amarillo. The assistance will increase Cenikor’s capacity to serve more people who are suffering from opioid addiction.

“Over the last few years, we have been working closely with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and with Representative Four Price to address the growing opioid epidemic that is facing Amarillo,” said Bill Bailey, President and CEO of Cenikor. “Representative Four Price has been a leader over the years in tackling the opioid problem in Amarillo and in Texas. In 2017, Speaker Straus appointed Representative Price to lead the House Select Committee on Opioids and Substance Abuse. We are very appreciative of Representative Price and HHSC’s effort because now, more families will be able to see their loved ones come home, and not suffer the loss of someone from an opioid overdose.”

Over the last year, almost 5,000 Texans have lost their life due to opioid overdose. This is an overwhelming 32.8% increase in deaths from the previous year, and the need for recovery assistance is ever-present. The funding received from the State of Texas will allow people in recovery to focus on their journey of recovery without the distraction of financial worries to deter their detox journey.

“With this additional funding, Cenikor is able to provide individuals with the first step in recovery through our withdrawal management program (detox) without regard to the ability to pay. We welcome the ability to reduce waitlist time and the ability to save more lives,” said Deborah King, Cenikor Amarillo Facility Manager.

With the support from the State of Texas, Cenikor’s Amarillo facility has extended our program care by adding 5 patients. This will allow for the care of 3 more adults and 2 specialized adult females with children under 18 years of age. The State funding budget is presently projected to be able to serve more than 140 more individuals between the present time until the funding’s repletion point in August of 2022. Cenikor is looking forward to its continual dedication to serving and assisting fellow Texans on their committed journey of recovery from opioid addiction.
