Successful Stand Down Event for Homeless Veterans

Houston, September 26, 2022 – Cenikor, a leading provider of substance and alcohol treatment is pleased to announce that on September 23rd from 8 AM to 1 PM, in collaboration with the ReCenter Houston, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), we hosted an exceptionally successful Veterans’ Stand Down event to help support homeless veterans with opportunities to reintegrate into society. Cenikor worked with multiple organizations and governmental agencies to identify and assist veterans experiencing homelessness with referrals to community-based services.

The Stand Down event made it possible to provide many of the critical services that homeless veterans need. This included veterans’ affairs benefits, behavioral health services, and housing. Each of these resources quite often serves as the catalyst that enables homeless veterans to reenter the workforce.

The Stand Down event was held at ReCenter Houston, which is located near downtown Houston where several homeless veterans live. “With more than 20 vendors on-site, we served over 150 homeless veterans at the event to support veterans and their families with the transition from homelessness and incarceration”, said Cenikor President and CEO, Bill Bailey.

This was a great outreach to these veterans to let them know what services we offer for veterans. Many homeless veterans are facing physical and emotional challenges that put them at risk for substance use disorder. Helping our veterans overcome these challenges and enter into a state of wellness is our top priority.

Cenikor is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers an array of successful rehabilitation programs, tailored to treat people who want to be free from substance use. Since its inception in 1967, Cenikor has been dedicated to helping those in need. Cenikor continues to evolve to offer supportive services to veterans, adults, and adolescents in several cities across Texas, and neighboring states. More than 150,000 lives have been changed in the process.
