“For me, it was a solution. It was a solution for some difficulties that were presented in my life,” Theodore said. He’s one of millions of Americans falling victim to the opioid crisis in the U.S., and this threat is now growing in Waco, where facilities like Cenikor are trying to comeback the problem.
“The problem is there such a stigma on treatment, and there’s still such a stigma on being an addict and alcoholic,” says Cenikor Waco Outpatient Manager Stacie Woodall. “So, a lot of people don’t reach out for treatment. People need to know that there is treatment available, and there’s treatment available locally.”
The outpatient facility has a whopping 45 percent of patients who come there to seek treatment for opioid addiction or dependency.
“Cenikor offers a continuum of care,” Stacie said. “That’s what we want. We want to meet the client and detox and follow them all the way through.”
“I know I thought I could do it on my own for a really long time, but I just can’t. I have to have the support of other people who are like me,” Theodore said.
