Recovery, Your Way: Local Healing at Cenikor Odyssey House

Cenikor’s Odyssey House offers residential, outpatient, and aftercare support for teens struggling with substance use, mental health challenges, and co-occurring disorders.

“Adolescents who present with substance use disorders almost always have co-occurring behavioral or mental health concerns — anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and mood dysregulation are extremely common. At Odyssey House, our integrated treatment model ensures that both are addressed clinically and simultaneously. Our therapeutic programming specifically incorporates DBT-based skills for emotional regulation, which are particularly effective with adolescents who struggle to manage intense emotions without substances.”Dr. Rafique

Our compassionate, experienced team is trained to address the root causes of addiction, helping teens build the skills and resilience needed for lasting recovery.

As one of the few adolescent treatment providers in the state, nearly half of our clients travel to Houston to find hope and healing at Odyssey House.

“Transition planning for adolescents is a collaborative, multi-system process. Our clinical team works directly with schools and educational coordinators to facilitate re-enrollment and academic re-engagement after discharge from Odyssey House. We also coordinate closely with families to ensure the home environment supports ongoing recovery, and connect young clients with peer recovery support appropriate to their age group. Outpatient step-down care and continued therapy are standard components of the discharge plan. The goal is a seamless re-entry that doesn’t leave a young person feeling abandoned when formal inpatient treatment ends — recovery momentum needs to carry into real life.”Devin Daniels, MS, BS

This program is exclusively for teens. With an on-site accredited school, residents can catch up on missed classes or get back on track to graduate middle or high school.

“Adolescent treatment requires an entirely different clinical framework. The adolescent brain is still developing — particularly the prefrontal cortex, which governs impulse control, decision-making, and risk assessment. Substance use during this developmental window can have outsized and lasting neurological effects. Clinically, this means our Odyssey House team prioritizes developmentally appropriate modalities: shorter, more engaging therapeutic formats, family involvement as a central treatment component rather than a supplement, and integration with educational goals so that treatment doesn’t derail a young person’s academic trajectory. We also hold higher clinical awareness of co-occurring psychiatric conditions, which are common in adolescent presentations.”Dr. Rafique

“Family is not peripheral to adolescent recovery — it is a primary treatment factor. Research consistently shows that family involvement dramatically improves outcomes for teens in substance use treatment. At Odyssey House, families are actively engaged through educational sessions, family therapy, and regular communication with the clinical team. We also help families understand how their own patterns and dynamics may have contributed to or been affected by the adolescent’s substance use — not to assign blame, but to build the healthiest possible home environment for the return. When family systems are stabilized alongside the individual, long-term recovery outcomes improve significantly.”Devin Daniels, MS, BS

You don’t have to have it all figured out — you just have to show up.

“Early warning signs of substance use in adolescents include sudden changes in peer groups or withdrawal from longtime friends; declining academic performance or unexplained absences from school; changes in mood, sleep patterns, or appetite that don’t have an obvious cause; secretive behavior or unexplained need for money; and loss of interest in activities or hobbies that were previously important to them. Physical signs can include bloodshot eyes, altered speech, or unusual smells. We encourage parents not to dismiss these signs as ‘just teenage behavior’ — early intervention is significantly more effective than waiting for a crisis. Cenikor’s Odyssey House team is available to help families assess what they’re observing.”Devin Daniels, MS, BS

I just left this amazing place! Nervous not knowing what to expect not wanting to be there. I did 21 days. The 21 days there was life changing. I will always be grateful for this place and the counselors and the staff. Met some people I will never forget and my counselor Cody most importantly. The deep convos we had the way he changed my thought process. I’m sure there are better places but this place won’t disappoint you. Thank you family for changing my life ! Adam

My daughter was recently admitted and I’m so hopeful she will have a positive and life changing experience here. I’ve heard this place has good vibes and helpful staff. I believe she’s in great hands and am excited for her future now that she’s getting some fundamental assistance. I will update with a secondary review after she’s completed her recovery there and give more details at a later date. The facility looks clean and engaging for a young lady here age.

First impressions: First thing I noticed was the positive energy emanating from various staff members. Everybody seemed HAPPY to be at work (about 4-5 staff members). That's always a good sign of a good work space. Second was a very low adult:teen ratio (many adults to few teens) which let me know there is very little chance for missteps with resident whereabouts; and as an added bonus, there were zero adults using cell phones! Third and most important was the professionalism and knowledge of the young and thorough intake officer D'Mani. She spoke with such mastery and courtesy and reassurance, that I could actually exhale at the notion of leaving my most precious part of me here-alone, that is, without a family member. At this initial visit I feel confident that my family member will leave this facility emotionally and psychologically better than when he arrived✝️.
Response from the owner:Thank you, Linda! We love what we do and the people we do it with. Grateful to have you & your family as a part of this recovery community!
