Experience Transformational Healing at Cenikor

We’re excited to introduce our first female recovery house in San Antonio, providing structured programming, workforce training, and comprehensive support services to help women rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.

Cenikor offers:

A Fresh Start for Women in Recovery

Recovery housing for women provides more than just shelter; it creates a foundation for lasting change. Located in the heart of San Antonio, our women-only recovery house combines evidence-based treatment with practical life skills training in a nurturing community environment.

“A residential-only setting requires us to be especially thoughtful about continuity of care within the program. Without detox on-site, clients arrive already medically stabilized, which means our clinical focus is immediately on the psychological and behavioral dimensions of recovery. For our San Antonio program — which serves women — that means attending carefully to trauma histories, which are statistically very high among women in treatment, as well as relationship dynamics, parenting stress, and co-occurring mental health needs. The therapeutic community environment allows women to build genuine solidarity and trust with their peers, which is itself a powerful clinical tool.” – Amber Edwards, M.A., LCDC

This program represents a significant milestone as our organization’s first dedicated female recovery facility.

Through strategic partnerships with Bexar County and Chrysalis Ministries, women gain access to support services including workforce development, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and ongoing recovery support. Our recovery housing is designed to foster independence and self-sufficiency.

“Many of the clients we serve arrive without reliable family support or their family relationships have been significantly damaged. At Cenikor, we treat the therapeutic community itself as a primary support system. Peer bonds formed in residential treatment can be lasting and recovery-sustaining. We also actively engage family members who are willing and able through our Families First programming. We offer educational and counseling sessions designed to provide understanding and allow clients to participate productively in recovery. For clients without family resources, we connect them to community supports, alumni networks, and Recovery Support Specialists who continue working with them after discharge.” – Amber Edwards, M.A., LCDC

What Makes Our Recovery Housing Different

For women balancing responsibilities at home or in the community, our recovery housing offers:

Partnership-Driven Support

Our collaboration with Bexar County enables enrollment in the San Antonio Ready to Work program, with rent covered during training. This unique arrangement allows residents to focus entirely on building job skills and preparing for independent living without financial stress.

Individualized Care Coordination

Our dedicated case managers and peer support specialists work directly within the recovery house, providing personalized discharge and recovery planning. This hands-on approach includes ongoing assessment of recovery capital.

We’re here to provide you with the internal and external resources that support sustained recovery.

“Confidence in recovery is built incrementally, through action and evidence — not reassurance alone. As clients progress through our residential program, they’re given increasing levels of responsibility within the therapeutic community, which mirrors the autonomy they’ll need to exercise after discharge. We set measurable treatment goals and celebrate progress. We prepare them for difficult conversations and situations they’ll face upon returning home through role-play, relapse prevention planning, and Skills training. By the time clients complete our residential program, they should have a concrete aftercare plan, a recovery support network, and a repertoire of coping tools they have practiced — not just heard about.” – Amber Edwards, M.A., LCDC

Eligibility Requirements for Admission

Women seeking admission to our San Antonio recovery house must meet specific criteria designed to ensure readiness for community-based recovery:

These requirements establish a foundation for success and ensure residents can fully benefit from the structured environment and comprehensive services we offer.

“A typical day at Cenikor’s residential program is structured from morning to evening to maximize therapeutic engagement. Clients generally begin the day with morning community meetings that set intention and accountability. Group therapy sessions occupy a significant portion of the day — these cover topics ranging from relapse prevention and coping skills to trauma education, CBT-based work, and psychoeducation. Individual counseling sessions are scheduled regularly throughout the week. There are also recreational activities, life skills programming, and 12-step facilitation. Evenings allow for reflection, peer connection, and structured wind-down. That rhythm is intentional — it replaces the chaos of active addiction with something clients can rely on.” – Amber Edwards, M.A., LCDC
