Cenikor Awarded $640,000 SAMHSA Community Funding by Congressman Sessions to Expand Recovery Services in Waco

Waco, TX, November 29, 2023Cenikor, a leading nonprofit behavioral health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment network, is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded $640,000 in funding by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for a one-year program commencing on October 1, 2023. This funding, allocated by Congressman Pete Sessions, allows Cenikor to expand its continuum of care services in Waco and its surrounding communities.

The program’s primary focus is on extending recovery options through a comprehensive service model, with a particular emphasis on medication-assisted treatment (MAT). This approach will ensure a holistic and individualized approach to treatment, providing a more robust support system for individuals seeking long-term recovery.

COVID has had an enormous impact on the rise of adults with SUD. Over the last two years, the percentage of those with SUD has increased from 25% pre-pandemic to 39% and this number continues to rise. Cenikor Foundation, with its longstanding commitment to addiction recovery, is well-positioned to close the treatment gap, ensuring individuals can complete an intensive residential program, receive medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and engage in recovery support services.

Congressman Sessions said, “I am proud to support Cenikor’s vital mission to provide Central Texas with treatments for lasting freedom from substance dependence,” said Congressman Pete Sessions. “In the face of rising substance use disorders, it is more important than ever to provide effective and accessible treatment options. This funding will empower Cenikor to enhance their comprehensive care services, offering a beacon of hope to those battling addiction. Together, we are taking a significant step towards healing our community and supporting individuals on their journey to recovery.”

This funding is a testament to Congressman Session’s dedication to his constituents. Together, Cenikor will prove recovery success is more likely when approached comprehensively and without cost barriers. Cenikor extends its deepest gratitude to Congressman Sessions and his team.

“We are honored to receive this significant grant from SAMHSA, thanks to Congressman Pete Sessions, which reflects a shared commitment to addressing the critical gaps in mental health and substance use disorder services in our community,” said Bill Bailey, President and CEO of Cenikor Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for Congressman Session’s work that will enable us to expand our reach and provide all-inclusive support.

Cenikor Foundation will collaborate with local stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to ensure a seamless integration of services. The goal is to create a sustainable and impactful model that not only addresses the current challenges but also sets the stage for a lasting improvement in the overall well-being of individuals and families in McLennan County.
