We are thrilled to announce that Cenikor’s Deep in the Heart Luncheon raised an incredible $100,000, all of which will be dedicated to supporting substance use disorder (SUD) treatment here in the Houston area. This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community members, who gathered yesterday to celebrate recovery and honor those who have made an impact on SUD treatment.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our board members, Alex Howard, Bentley Sanford, Dr. Joy Schmitz, Dr. Kelty Baker, Geoff Crabtree, Larry Hobbs, Mike Viator, and Rick Grinnan, who supported this event. Your dedication is truly inspiring, and we are grateful for your commitment to our mission.
To our generous donors, your contributions have a profound impact on the lives of those in need. Your belief in our mission and willingness to continually support us in this journey is one of the driving forces behind our success. Together, we are making a difference and offering hope to individuals battling substance use disorders.
In addition to the incredible financial support we received, we were also privileged to have Tio Kleberg as a special guest at the luncheon. Tio shared his remarkable journey of sobriety, and how he has stayed sober one day at a time for more than five decades. His story served as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the hope that recovery can bring.
We also want to take a moment to recognize our award winners. Cenikor owes much of its success to community partners, and our elected officials with whom they work closely. It is our honor and pleasure to recognize four well-deserving recipients: Congressman Al Green, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Locke Lord, and The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD. Your leadership and achievements remind us of the incredible power of individuals to affect positive change.
The funds raised at this luncheon will be directed toward supporting the Odyssey House and Deer Park facilities, here in Houston, where countless lives have been transformed through quality, evidence-based treatment programs. Our programs ensure individuals in our community receive the care and support they need, regardless of their ability to pay.

We’re proud to also have launched our 2023 Annual Report, which showcases mission highlights, yesterday at the luncheon.
