Houston, TX, August 12, 2024 — Cenikor, a leading nonprofit behavioral health treatment network serving over 14,000 people a year, is proud to announce the expansion of its prevention services, now offered in Liberty, Montgomery, Walker, and Waller Counties. Recognizing that substance use issues begin in adolescence, Cenikor is dedicated to educating and assisting young people in making healthy life choices through grade school, afterschool, and summer programs.
The prevention program uses age-appropriate, evidence-based curricula to teach students of all ages the skills needed to build good self-esteem, resist peer and media pressure, and explore activities that support their health and wellness. These efforts are critical in helping young people navigate the challenges they face today and in the future.
“Our goal is to equip young people with the tools they need to make informed and healthy decisions,” said Cenikor’s President and CEO, Bill Bailey. “By expanding our prevention education services to the Houston area, we can reach even more individuals and families, helping to build stronger and healthier communities.”
Prevention helps individuals:
- Develop a positive self-image and coping skills
- Overcome peer and media pressure
- Learn about tobacco, alcohol, and drugs
- Create social and emotional regulation skills
- Promote a resilient lifestyle for overall health and wellness
Last year, Cenikor’s prevention services successfully reached 46,969 youth and 16,481 adults in San Marcos and Amarillo. With the expansion to the Houston area, Cenikor aims to extend its positive impact and continue its mission of promoting healthier communities—well beyond recovery.
